Living Devoted to God’s Word
Our mission is to put on display the true hope of Jesus. One of our key values that will help us accomplish our mission is living relentless in prayer. To live out of this value we want to institute Thursdays as important corporate day of Prayer and Fasting for True Hope Collister. On these days we unite our voices around a central theme connected to our vision and pray together in an effort to discern God’s will for our church.
This week we focus prayer and fasting on living devoted to God’s Word.
Today’s Scripture: Psalm 119:97-105
Focus: Living Devoted to God’s Word
Fasting: Consider fasting a meal and utilizing that time to pray specifically through this guide.
Read: Psalm 119:97-105
97 Oh, how I love your instructions! I think about them all day long. 98 Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, for they are my constant guide. 99 Yes, I have more insight than my teachers, for I am always thinking of your laws. 100 I am even wiser than my elders, for I have kept your commandments. 101 I have refused to walk on any evil path, so that I may remain obedient to your word. 102 I haven’t turned away from your regulations, for you have taught me well. 103 How sweet your words taste to me; they are sweeter than honey. 104 Your commandments give me understanding; no wonder I hate every false way of life. 105 Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. (NLT)
Reflect: What are you devoted to? What are a few words that would describe your relationship with the Word of God? Consider the bolded statements above, what are the obstacles you are facing to experience these benefits of God’s Word?
Pray: Ask God to meet you in the time you have set aside to read His Word in a personal way. Ask Him to be your guide and make His Word sweeter than honey. Ask Him to provide you with wisdom, understanding and guidance in what you are facing in life today.
Read: Re-read Psalm 119:97-105
Reflect & Journal: Why is it so important to be devoted to God’s Word? How can you set up your schedule to give priority to God’s Word in your day? Who can you share these goals with to help hold you accountable to them?
Pray: Thank God for the intentionality of the gift of His Word. Write down an attainable goal regarding God’s Word and share it with the Father and then a friend. Ask Him to provide the ability to complete that goal.
Pray over True Hope Collister: Pray for provision from the Father for all He leads us into regarding a building and multiplying churches.
